A LEVEL BIOLOGYAt A Level our aim is to inspire students through a grasp of fundamental biological ideas that will help them understand many of today’s major issues. The course is also designed to demonstrate the vitally important interaction of biology with social, philosophical, economic and industrial matters. All students are encouraged to develop the deepest possible understanding of the key links between theory and experiment in a variety of practical ways. They learn advanced skills in designing and executing experiments and how to apply these to changing situations that affect the whole planet. A LEVEL CHEMISTRYStudents study many different aspects of contemporary chemistry that affect all our daily lives. The course builds an appreciation of the inter-linking patterns which are a feature of the subject. It also reveals the interrelationship between the development of the subject and its numerous applications - social, economic, environmental and technological. It is important that all students have the required knowledge and understanding of fundamental chemistry in order to explain the different aspects of contemporary chemistry such as climate change, pharmaceuticals, green chemistry, and chemical research. This course is designed to be motivating to both teachers and students. A LEVEL PHYSICSWe aim to develop a profound interest in how physics has developed and its use in present day society. All students are encouraged to bring together knowledge of the ways in which different areas of physics relate to each other and study how scientific models develop. Students learn to recognise the quantitative nature of physics and understand how mathematical expressions relate to practical physical principles. In addition they will also develop the skills needed for the use of this in new and changing situations. In this way they discover for themselves the importance of physics as a human endeavour which is relevant to all aspects of life.
